Elemental aims to commission contemporary, site specific, permanent and temporary artwork for defined areas along Maidstone's riverside between Fant and Allington Lock.

Phase 1 of the Elemental programme included the undertaking of a project Feasibility Study and the launch of the Double Helix public artwork in Whatman Park.

During Phase 3 of the commissioning programme, Elemental secured external funding to bring three permanent and three temporary public artworks to the town centre:

• St Peter's and Maidstone Bridges: Light Elements
• Rose Garden: Morning Thoughts
• St Peter's riverside: The Maidstone Marker (launching Feb 2009)
• Fairmeadow: Light Wave
• Force of Water artist residency and artwork
• Bishops Subway: Water

Phase 3 commences in 2009 and will bring further public artworks to enhance the riverside.

• Riverside Sensory Garden (subject to approval and funding) 
• Lockmeadow (subject to approval and funding)

Elemental will bring together people of different generations and backgrounds in community events and education projects that strive for sustainable development through the creation of artworks; participation and learning.
