What’s it all about?
Art at the Centre is a pioneering award scheme form Arts Council England, South East that seeks to involve artists and embed creativity within sustainable regeneration projects.
Art at the Centre, Maidstone Borough Council commissioned a feasibility study looking at the development an Artists’ Quarter in the heart of Maidstone. The proposed Artists' Quarter included Earl Street, Market Buildings (including The Royal Star Arcade), Bank Street, Rose Yard and Pudding Lane.
Project coordinators Louise Francis and Laura Knight worked with the arts and business communities between 2005-2008 supporting creative projects in the heart of the town that bring lasting benefits for the wider community.
