In January 2007, artist Rob Olins delivered a creative workshop with Foundation Year students at Maidstone’s University College for the Creative Arts.

Earlier in 2006, Rob was selected to undertake a major new artwork commission ‘The Maidstone Marker’ as part of the Borough Council’s Elemental -A Walk of Art public art programme.

Rob worked with students, analysing the original Maidstone Marker artist brief to create a new object for the Marker’s installation site at the Broadway.

During the workshops, students gained an understanding of the site, space and landscape, were introduced to different materials, colours, lighting and shapes to assist in creating simple visual manipulation to make 3D objects from plan.
