LockmeadowThe Public Art Projects Officer is working in partnership with the Borough Council's Environmental Services Team to seek external funding to support a permanent public art commission and community events programme at the Lockmeadow riverside site. It is hoped that funding will be secured by summer 2007.
The site is located within an open green space bordered by simple landscaping and the Lockmeadow entertainment complex. The site overlooks the stunning Millennium Bridge crossing the River Medway and The Stag, a permanent sculptural work and is in close proximity to Maidstone’s town centre.
Experienced, contemporary artists will be encouraged to develop an accessible, safe and welcoming multifunctional ‘play’ area for visitors to the site. Submissions must be permanent and consider how the artwork can provide an interactive response to both users and the landscape to create a new public space for ‘communication, play and artistic creation’.
Further details will be released once funding is secured.
